Every listing starts with the official SLTDA travel agent register, which listed 638 travel agents with a current licence when we checked it on 15 October 2026. We keep only agencies that run tours inside Sri Lanka, then check each one's licence, website and published tours by hand, which leaves the 21 agencies above. Listings are free and cannot be bought, and the order is set by the number of Google reviews each agency has.
How to check a Sri Lanka tour agency's licence
Tour agencies in Sri Lanka are licensed by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. Checking takes about a minute and is worth doing before you pay a deposit:
- Open the SLTDA travel agent register on srilanka.travel.
- Search by the agency's name, registration number or district.
- Confirm the registration number (for example SLTDA/SQA/TA/01737) and the licence number (for example TA/2026/0320).
- Check the licence validity date shown under the agency's entry.

A licensed tour agency plans and books the whole trip: hotels, transport, activities and any changes on the way, with one company responsible. That suits first visits, longer trips, families and anyone who wants a single point of contact. If you have already booked your hotels and mainly need transport with local knowledge, Sri Lanka private driver hire is usually cheaper.
