About the agency

About Atypique Lanka

Atypique Lanka is a French-speaking travel agency founded in Sri Lanka in 2012 by Chamika, a Sri Lankan who grew up in France, and Marjorie Alexandre. Now trading as Atypique Voyages, it designs only tailor-made trips, built around what it calls 'pépites': hand-picked local experiences such as a Buddhist monastery retreat, a remote mountain village, a wreck dive off Colombo and nights in the founders' own Huma Terra treehouses. It gained Travelife certification in 2026 and funds women's and education projects through the Fondation Atypique.

Frequently asked questions

Who runs Atypique Lanka?

Atypique Lanka was founded in 2012 by Chamika, a Sri Lankan who grew up in France, and Marjorie Alexandre, who still lead the company. Since 2020 it has traded as Atypique Voyages and added trips to Vietnam, Indonesia and the Maldives. The Sri Lankan company, Atypique Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, is based in Nawala, Colombo.

Is Atypique Lanka licensed by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority?

Yes. Atypique Lanka (Pvt) Ltd is registered with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) as a travel agent, registration number SLTDA/SQA/TA/01787, and holds licence TA/2026/0077. Travellers can check any agency's current licence on the official SLTDA travel agent register at srilanka.travel. Wonder of Ceylon last checked this licence on 15 October 2026.

Does Atypique Lanka sell tour packages?

No. Atypique Lanka does not sell fixed packages; every trip is designed to order with a travel designer. Its website instead showcases six signature experiences that can be added to an itinerary: a tuk-tuk treasure hunt in Colombo, a highland manor and tea factory near Gampola, a wreck dive off Colombo, a remote village, a monastery retreat and a treehouse night.

How much does an Atypique Lanka trip cost?

Atypique Lanka does not publish prices, because every trip is built from scratch around the traveller's dates, interests and choice of accommodation. A quote is prepared after a conversation with one of its French-speaking travel designers. To compare prices with other licensed agencies, you can also request a free quote through Wonder of Ceylon.

Is Atypique Lanka a reliable agency?

Atypique Lanka holds a current SLTDA travel agent licence and has operated in Sri Lanka since 2012. It gained Travelife certification for sustainable tourism in 2026, was featured in the TF1 documentary series Grand Reportage in 2017, and is run by its two named founders, with a senior manager appointed in 2025 to support them.

Does Atypique Lanka speak French?

Yes. Atypique Lanka was set up to serve French-speaking travellers: its website, trip planning and travel designers work in French, and one of its founders grew up in France.
