Translation in three taps
Built for travellers — no signup, no app install, no learning curve.
Type, paste or speak
Enter your text in English (or any of 30+ source languages). Tap the microphone to dictate instead — voice input works in Chrome, Edge and Safari.
AI translates instantly
Google Gemini 2.5 generates the translation in 1–3 seconds, including romanisation for non-Latin scripts like Sinhala (ආයුබෝවන් → ayubowan) and Tamil.
Listen, copy or save
Hit the speaker icon to hear the pronunciation, copy the translation to send via WhatsApp, or heart it to save for offline reference in your browser.
Built for travellers, not tech demos
We use the best AI translation available, with no friction between you and the answer.
Powered by Google Gemini 2.5
The same AI that powers Google Search and Lens — trained on more multilingual text than any single human could read in a thousand lifetimes.
Tuned for Sri Lanka travel
Defaults to Sinhala and Tamil. Phrase library curated around real situations — tuk-tuk haggling, monsoon questions, temple etiquette.
Instant, no signup
Type a phrase, get a translation in under three seconds. No accounts, no email captures, no rate-limiting walls in your face.
Privacy-first by design
Translations are processed and forgotten — we don't store your text. Saved phrases live in your browser's localStorage only.
When you'll actually need this
Five scenarios every Sri Lanka traveller eventually hits — and the phrases to handle each.
Airport pickup miscommunication
Your driver doesn't see you at arrivals. The dispatch line is in Sinhala. You need to explain that you're at Gate 4 wearing a red shirt.
What to translate
- Hi, I'm the passenger you're picking up.
- I'm at Gate 4 wearing a red shirt.
- How long until you arrive?
Hotel check-in past midnight
You arrive at 2am. The night receptionist speaks limited English. You need to confirm your booking and ask about late-night food.
What to translate
- I have a reservation under [name].
- Is the kitchen still open?
- Could I get a wake-up call at 6am?
Restaurant dietary restrictions
You're allergic to peanuts. The waiter doesn't catch this in English. Sri Lankan cuisine uses ground nuts in many curries.
What to translate
- I have a serious peanut allergy.
- Does this dish contain any nuts?
- Please prepare my food without ground nuts.
Tuk-tuk fare negotiation
Outside Galle Fort, a tuk-tuk driver quotes 4× the meter rate. You want to negotiate politely without insulting him.
What to translate
- How much to [destination]?
- That's too high. Can you use the meter?
- I'll pay 800 rupees. Is that okay?
Lost passport at the temple
You realise your passport is missing after leaving the Temple of the Tooth. Security speaks Sinhala. Time matters — embassy hours are limited.
What to translate
- I've lost my passport. Can you help me?
- Has anyone handed in a passport today?
- Where is the nearest police station?

Is the AI Travel Translator free?
Yes — completely free, no signup required. We cap free translations to 200 per IP per day to prevent abuse. Most travelers only translate 10–20 phrases per trip.
What languages does it support?
30+ languages curated for Sri Lanka travel — including Sinhala, Tamil, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and more. The underlying AI (Google Gemini) supports 100+ languages; we feature the most common tourist source markets.
Does the voice feature work?
Yes — both voice input (microphone → text) and voice output (text → audio) use your browser's built-in Web Speech APIs. Works in Chrome, Edge, Safari and most modern browsers. Voice quality varies by your device's installed language packs.
How accurate are the translations?
Translations are powered by Google Gemini 2.5 — the same AI used in Google Search and Translate. Quality is excellent for conversational travel phrases. For complex sentences, idioms, or legal/medical contexts, double-check with a human translator.
Do the phrases work offline?
The common travel phrases are loaded with the page so you can read them anytime. Active AI translation requires an internet connection. We're adding offline phrase packs for major languages in a future update.
Do you store my translations?
No. Translations are processed by the AI and returned to your browser — we don't keep them. Favorites you save are stored locally on your device only.
Why does Sinhala look like 'अनुराधा' in some places?
That's actually Hindi script (Devanagari), not Sinhala. Sinhala script looks like 'සිංහල'. Make sure your target language is set to Sinhala (Sri Lanka), not Hindi.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes — the translator is fully mobile-responsive. For best voice recognition, use Chrome or Safari on your phone. The phrases and copy buttons all work on touch.
