About Udawatta Kele Sanctuary

Udawatta Kele, is a historic forest reserve in Kandy that is located on a hill ridge. It covers an area of 104 hectares (257 acres). Udawattakele was known as �Uda Wasala Watta� in Sinhalese during the Kandyan empire, which meant �the garden above the royal palace.� The sanctuary is well-known for its diverse avifauna. A wide range of plant species, including lianas, shrubs, and tiny trees, can be found in the reserve. There are a few colossal lianas.
